Mahalo to the 160 of you who joined us for the Hawaiʻi Predator Control and Wetland Workshop in Kahului, Maui! And many thanks to the sponsors & organizing partners who made this event possible!
This statewide workshop focused on wetland management and predator control across all habitats in Hawaiʻi.
The 2024 Predator Control & Wetland Workshop event brought together experts from across Hawaiʻi Nei and beyond to share practical management expertise, knowledge, and stories around wetlands and predator control. The unifying theme was sharing predator control techniques that keep Hawaiʻi’s native flora and fauna thriving. Topics included wetland restoration efforts during climate change, indigenous agro-ecology, approaches to predator and habitat management, and current research.

Accommodations
Camping was available at the Waiheʻe Refuge – many thanks to the Hawaiʻi Island Land Trust. Camping is basic and you will need to bring your own gear. Portapotties will be provided. There will also be a water supply and 2 outdoor showers. More info and a map are available on their website HERE. The site is spectacular and free breakfast will be provided for campers on workshop days (April 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th). Camping must be reserved during registration and you will need to sign a waiver.
Hotel rooms – the Maui Seaside and Maui Beach Hotel are reasonably priced and well located – contact them directly if you want to book, we do not have a room block. We strongly recommend booking well in advance as places to stay are limited (and can be cost prohibitive) on Maui.
Field Trips
Field trips include Nuʻu Refuge (HILT), Kanahā Pond (DOFAW), Kealīa National Wildlife Refuge (USFWS), Beach Cleanup, and more. Fieldtrips are FULL and registration has closed.
