When SCP Hilo Hotel opened its doors in June 2020, they didn't just welcome guests—they launched a groundbreaking commitment to ocean conservation. Through the Pristine Makai Partnership with Hawaiʻi Wildlife Fund, every overnight stay at the hotel directly supports the removal of marine debris from Hawaiʻi Island's remote beaches.

In late September, our team at HWF was thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate <<10 years>> with Ke Kai Ola, the only hospital in Hawaiʻi dedicated to the conservation and care of critically endangered Hawaiian monk seals (ʻīlio holo i ka uaua, Monachus schauinslandi)!
Hawaiʻi Wildlife Fund teams up with Ka ʻOhana O Honuʻapo to launch an environmental and cultural stewardship program for wahi pana in Kaʻū from October 2023 to February 2024. We worked collaboratively and inclusively with other local nonprofit entities as well as State, County, and Federal government agencies, and pertinent landowners to offer stewards a comprehensive training and stewardship experience for 10 trainees from the shoreline into the forest.
Hawaiʻi Wildlife Fund, Sea Cleaners NZ, Clean Rewards, Keep Puakō Beautiful and the Marine Option Program at the University of Hawaiʻi - Hilo all team up to clean up coastlines across Hawaiʻi Island for the annual International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) event in September 2023. The 5th International Symposium on Anchialine Ecosystems (5ISAE) was held in Kailua-Kona in November 2022 and provided a platform for sharing the brilliant research, management and restoration projects going on both globally and locally here in Hawai‘i.
