When SCP Hilo Hotel opened its doors in June 2020, they didn't just welcome guests—they launched a groundbreaking commitment to ocean conservation. Through the Pristine Makai Partnership with Hawaiʻi Wildlife Fund, every overnight stay at the hotel directly supports the removal of marine debris from Hawaiʻi Island's remote beaches.
In late September, our team at HWF was thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate <<10 years>> with Ke Kai Ola, the only hospital in Hawaiʻi dedicated to the conservation and care of critically endangered Hawaiian monk seals (ʻīlio holo i ka uaua, Monachus schauinslandi)!
HWF is excited to share our 2023 honuʻea (hawksbill) nesting season recap with our online community! Mahalo to our volunteer, staff, and supporters that allowed us to protect nearly 1,300 hatchlings on Maui this season!
Community members along with HWF staff, volunteers, and renowned nature artist Patrick Ching, celebrated the grand opening of the Hawaiʻi Wildlife Discovery Center. The day’s special events included the unveiling and Hawaiian blessing led by Kahu Ua for the stunning ‘Ohana Kanaloa mural, created by Patrick Ching in partnership with the Maui community, and the sharing of several oli by Noelani Lee and her two keiki kāne (sons).
Dr. Russ Reinbolt of California raced around Hawaiʻi Island (twice!) to raise money and awareness for native wildlife.
